Hingham's 375th Anniversary

Hingham QuizA Year Long Celebration of 375 Years in Hingham

Starting in September 2009 and culminating in September 2010, there will be dozens of events and activities – some sponsored directly by the 375th Committee, many put on independently by supportive local groups and civic organizations – tracing Hingham’s growth and development. The year will be split into three segments, each focusing on a particular period of Hingham history:

  • The "Early Period from the town’s founding in 1635 through Independence, with emphasis on colonial Hingham and the American Revolution
  • The 19th Century, stressing the growth of industrialization and Hingham’s experience of the Civil War
  • The 20th Century, highlighting World War II and the rise of the local conservation movement and commerce
