February 8, 2011 Meeting Minutes
Hingham Town Hall
Present: Committee Members Manning, Asher, MacCune, Farrell, Innis, Power, Pyles, Johnson, Kirven, Friedman, Marwill, Ellison, Eldredge, Dwyer
1. Call to order
Chair Jack Manning called the Advisory Committee meeting to order at 7:01 PM.
3. Upcoming Town Forum
There was a discussion about the Town Forum to be held on February 13, 2011. It was agreed that the Committee would review the proposed presentation at the February 10, 2011 meeting.
4. Warrant Articles
Jack led a discussion to finalize warrant article assignments and to propose hearing dates.
5. Joint Meeting with the Board of Selectmen and School Committee
The Committee temporarily adjourned the meeting to reconvene in a joint meeting with the BOS and School Committee. Dr. Galo presented the School Department budget after which she entertained questions from the public, the AdCom and the BOS.
After the budget presentation, Dr. Galo provided an update on the discussions between the Town and the Massachusetts School Building Authority. It was noted that in consideration of the recent issues related to the middle school roof that the MSBA no longer believes renovation of the school to be a viable option. Further, the MSBA suggested that the Town would be considered for the Model School program at the MSBA’s upcoming board meeting.
It was noted that the MSBA’s funding of the 1996 middle school science wing renovation would have some impact on the amount of MSBA funding to be available to the Town for construction of a new middle school.
6. Continuation of Warrant Article Discussion
Upon completion of the joint meeting, the AdCom reconvened its regular meeting to discuss the timing of warrant article hearings.
7. Next Meeting
The next meeting of the AdCom is scheduled for February 10, 2011 at 7:30 PM.
8. Adjourn
The meeting was adjourned at 10:23 PM.
