Committees: Hingham Affordable Housing Trust
Projects : 80 Beal Street
February 2011 Update
Sketches: Site Plan Rendering, Exterior Elevations & Floor Plans (PDF)
The Hingham Affordable Housing Trust, with Selectmen approval, has purchased the property at 80 Beal Street, formally known as the Amego property.
The Trust issued a Request for Proposal(s) (RFP) for design and permitting of the site last summer. A Hingham firm, Strekalovsky Architects, along with a team of consultants, was awarded a Contract and the Trust has been working with this team to create a plan for the property that fits in with the neighborhood and is financially feasible.
We would like to present the current concept plan showing eight small detached homes, of which at least two will be affordable. We are very excited about our efforts to create small cottage homes that have a neighborhood feel with farmers porches and pedestrian paths. It is truly quite different than many of the new homes being built in the community today.
Our next step following another community meeting will be to present our plan to the Board of Selectman for endorsement, file with the state in March for site eligibility, and begin a friendly 40B comprehensive permitting process.
As always, the goal of the Trust is to develop affordable housing that enhances the neighborhood and Hingham as a community.
For a preliminary summary of the anticipated eligibility, qualification and selection-by-lottery process for the affordable housing units at 80 Beal Street, please see the 80 Beal Street Fact Sheet (PDF).
