Chairman Andy Mooradian called the meeting to order at 6:37pm in the Town Hall Building.
The Draft of the Meeting Minutes from January 16, 2007 was approved.
School Committee representative Christine Smith and School Department Director of Business and Support Services David Killory presented the FY2008 capital outlay requests on behalf of the School Department.
FY2008 School Department Capital Outlay Requests
Middle School
• $10,625 for school furniture and equipment
Foster Elementary
• $9,970 for school furniture and equipment
• $58,000 to replace carpets with tile and area carpets in six classrooms
• $12,000 to install ceiling fans in six classrooms
• $13,000 to install an air-cooled refrigeration system in the kitchen to replace the existing water-cooled system
Plymouth River School
• $9,555 for school furniture and equipment
• $8,500 to replace carpeting in the computer lab and adjoining office
• $6,500 to re-surface six small lavatory floors
• $13,000 to install an air-cooled refrigeration system in the kitchen to replace the existing water-cooled system
South School
• $9,459 for school furniture and equipment
• $42,000 to replace carpets with tile and area carpets in 12 classrooms
• $6,500 to replace office carpet
• $20,000 to install 10 classroom ceiling fans
• $10,500 to repair the septic system
Assuming contact with the contractor’s bonding company is not fruitful
High School
• $10,391 for school furniture and equipment
• $13,000 to install new locks for student lockers
To address theft and potential security issues
• $2,250 to install a fire-curtain release system
To address a deficiency noted in a Spring 2006 safety inspection
• $30,000 to develop a field/bleacher plan
A “biddable” document would not result
• $31,800 to do “stop-gap” repair of the bleachers by the Maintenance Dept.
School System-wide
• $150,000 for school technology
• $45,000 to replace a one-ton maintenance vehicle
Used for snow-removal, sanding, and hauling
• $10,000 to replace the Central Fueling Station pump fuel management software
• $9,000 to replace musical instruments
• $78,000 to increase security systems for improved internal monitoring and/or external control at each school
David Killory is working with vendors to refine this rough estimate
• $16,500 for Gatehouse interior improvements
To provide painting, furniture and internet/email/fax access
• $48,000 to replace four photocopiers
• $35,000 to purchase a wheelchair-accessible van to replace an outsourced service
• $60,000 to purchase two Special Ed vans replacing leased vehicles
The total FY2008 School Department/School Committee capital outlay request amount is currently $768,550. However, David Killory indicated that a number of other potential capital outlay requests might be added, pending the outcome of Ten-Year School Facility Plan discussions amongst the School Department, School Committee, and School Building Committee relative to the Town’s Massachusetts School Building Assistance submission.
