Back to Capital Outlay Committee Minutes
![]()
2/3/2010 at Town Office Building
Attending: Chairman Ray Eisenbies, Ron Kirven, Lucy Hancock, Andy Mooradian (representing the Advisory Committee), Ted Alexiades (Town Accountant)
Ray Eisenbies called the meeting to order at 7:02 PM in the 3rd floor East Hearing Room.
The COC approved the 1/27/2010 meeting minutes with minor changes.
The COC reviewed the capital requests for FY2011 and evaluated each one using the established criteria for capital funding. Discussion included the following specific points:
• The Police Department should attempt to keep their vehicles more than twenty-two months.
• The Fire Department will use approximately $30K of funds allocated for a prior year for capital purchases in FY2011.
• The Fire Department will work with the DPW to replace hydrants. This will be less expensive than hiring outside contractors to do the work.
• Ted Alexiades is investigating the possibility of arranging for prisoners to do the painting in the fire stations.
• The DPW should investigate outsourcing the street sweeping and catch basin cleaning.
• Members discussed the idea of setting aside money in the Advisory Committee Reserve Fund for capital-related purchases and emergencies.
The COC will review the Capital Outlay budget again and will vote on the budget prior to meeting with the Advisory Committee and Board of Selectmen.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:10 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Lucy Hancock, Secretary
