NOTES
Back River Walk With Members of the Harbor Development Committee
Assessment for Car Top Boat Access
First Location: Weymouth Back River before the old North Pier by the rock jetty.
Ideas:
- Allow automotive access from Beal Street to the area where the white gate is located
- Possibly relocate gate if necessary
- Create some parking and a drop off/ pick up location
- Put down some crushed stone in areas needed but make use of the existing asphalt road
- Eliminate vehicle access to other park areas
- Route boaters in a way so that they do not damage marsh grasses
- Allow boat access on both inside and outside of current rock jetty
- Keep environmental impact to a minimum
- Ability of EMS and REI to help support this public access goal
Concerns
- Water currents at this location and impact on launch and hauling of small watercraft
- Impact of this additional use (car top access) on the parks current activities
- Environmental/Navigation impacts if there are any and possible means of mitigation
- Impact on public safety
Second Location: Entrance to Bouve Property by Coast Guard Pier
Ideas:
- Car top boat access point around the Coast Guard Pier
- Public access point from Coast Guard pier to moored vessels and dingy dock
- Parking restrictions and options
- BIG Boating Infrastructure Grant to fund such activities
Questions:
- Who owns and maintains the Coast Guard Pier
- Can the town have moored boats in this area under public management
