RE: Minutes of Traffic Committee Meeting – January 23, 2008
PRESENT: Sgt. David Horte NOT PRESENT: Philip Resca
Sgt. Glenn Olsson
Lt. John Haley
Harry Sylvester
Paul Healey
Leslie Kehoe
Michael Pevarnik
The meeting was called to order at 7:05 PM. Sgt. Olsson made a motion to accept the minutes of the previous meeting which was seconded by Leslie Kehoe.
The first topic was a request by a resident to install a sidewalk near the new Greenbush train crossing on French Street. The resident was present and explained her concerns. The Committee discussed this topic, and they felt that installing a sidewalk at this location would require major reconstruction to the intersection just completed by the MBTA project. It was also felt that the location of the requested sidewalk would encroach on wetlands, which would be another reason one could not be installed at this location.
The second topic discussed was the entrance to the new development at 120 South Pleasant Street. It was noted by Sgt. Olsson that all concerns raised by the Hingham Police Department had been addressed by the developer. The Committee decided to table any further discussion until the final plans were submitted by the developer, and they would be willing to discuss this topic at a future meeting if asked. It was agreed to keep the area on a list of possible New Sidewalk Construction Projects.
The third topic discussed was the traffic lights at South and Hersey Streets. After discussion, it was decided that the Traffic Committee would make a recommendation to the Board of Selectmen to have all four directions turn red and remain red at times when the train gate is down.
A motion to adjourn was made by Lt. Haley and was seconded by Leslie Kehoe at 8:05 PM.
