Sgt. Horte called the meeting to order at 7:08 PM.
Selectman John Riley presented the topic of the Hingham Harbor parking lot by the boat ramp. He stated he has had calls from residents who cannot find parking spaces and have complained that commercial vehicles are parked in the area designated for parking with trucks and trailers. Mr. Riley stated specifically that trucks from Pirates Cove Marina are parked in those spaces on a regular basis. He presented photographs to the Traffic Committee documenting this. Mr. Riley suggested signage stating “Two hour parking for commercial vehicles 2 ½ tons or greater”. After discussion by Committee members, Paul Healey made a motion that the Traffic Committee vote to recommend to the Board of Selectmen that signs be posted at the Town boat ramp for the parking regulation: RECREATIONAL PARKING - “Two Hour Commercial Limit (Subject to $50.00 Fine). Leslie Kehoe seconded this with all in favor.
Sgt. Horte brought up the next topic of parking tickets used by the Hingham Police Department. He stated there is a box that can be checked off which states “Not a Parking Space”. He suggested that there should be language to back up this violation in the Traffic Rules and Orders for the Town of Hingham. The Committee agreed and discussed possible language. Paul Healey made a motion to recommend to the Board of Selectmen that the following wording be included in the Town of Hingham Traffic Rules and Orders – “Parking on or about any public property not designated as a parking space under areas controlled and subject to the Town of Hingham parking by-laws is prohibited”. Sgt. Horte seconded this with all in favor.
A resident who was invited to tonight’s meeting to discuss speeding concerns on Old Country Road was not present. Should he wish to address the Traffic Committee this topic will be put on a future agenda.
Sgt. Horte adjourned the meeting at 7:50 PM.
