WREP Minutes for Dec. 1, 2010 meeting
Present: Faith Burbank from Hingham, Dick Avery from Cohasset, and Amy May and Judeth Van Hamm from Hull.
The October minutes were accepted, with note of Amy May and meeting location in Hingham.
The November minutes were accepted, with note of spelling correction for ACEC.
A discussion of each personal roles on the WREP Committee led into discussion of creating a resource management plan.
Faith sees her job as liaison with town boards and the Harbor Master. She attends meetings on properties in question. She circulates minutes, maintains the web site, writes the Annual Report, checks Town agendas, and contributes to the Open Space Plan. She helps move us forward on specific projects, making sure there is a champion for the project. Rockland Street is an example of a specific project.
Amy is looking for goals and assignments.
Judeth could use help with meeting notices and being a liaison to committees. Judeth was asked to send the email list to Amy.
Dick is on the WREP Committee as a Straits Pond Watershed Assoc. representative. He helped get Straits Pond recognized in the Cohasset Open Space Plan.
Amy is capable of guiding creation of a management plan.
Dick stated that management issues include structures extending into the water, catch and release policy, educational use of the Estuary Center and enforcement of No Wake zone.
The forum can bring stakeholders together.
Faith added that issues include pollution from boats rafting together at World’s End.
Voted unanimously to ask Amy May to take a leadership role in creating a resource management plan for the Weir River Estuary.
Dick suggested looking for new members through organizing the forum.
Reviewed Dick’s draft outline for an ACEC Management Plan process. See notes below.
Dick suggested using the Light Keepers Cottage (Bancroft Hall) for the forum. He will see if it is available in February or May.
Next meeting will be on Wednesday, Jan. 5 in Hingham. Thereafter the WREP Committee meeting time will change to the fourth Tuesday of the month. The January meeting will continue drafting the Resource Management Plan, consider how to engage Estuary constituents, follow up on committee meeting discussion, and format an invitation to the forum.
