Citizen's Police Academy


The Hingham Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy is starting. The program will begin on April 2, 2008 and complete with a graduation on June 4, 2008 All Hingham residents and Hingham business owners are invited to sign up.

What is the Citizen’s Police Academy?
The Citizen’s Police Academy is designed to give citizens a better understanding of the role of our police officers and the operation of our department.

How is the course taught?
Instruction is designed to be appealing to participants with lectures, tours, demonstrations, and hands-on practice.

What will the course include?
• Motor Vehicle Law Enforcement
• Domestic Violence
• Use of Force
• Drug Investigations & Gangs
• Crime Prevention
• Constitutional Law
• O.U.I Enforcement
• Tour of the local Correctional facility
• A Ride Along in a police cruiser with an officer after classes have been completed

When does the course start and where is it held?
The course is held twice a year (March and September) for 10 weeks and meets each Wednesday night at 6:30 pm at the Police Station. The next session will begin on April 2, 2008 The 25th Academy will also include a Saturday class (May 3rrd Tentative date) and also extra night to be announced at the Shooting Range.
