Regular Session 7:30 PM
Mr. MacIver, Mr. Edmundson, Ms. Tully
Voted - to approve the minutes of March 7, 13, 28 and April 4, 2006.
Beal Street Playing Fields and Field House
Mr. Hoffman of the Hingham Sports Partnership advised that Mr., Hastings has approved the contract agreement for the field house. Steve Jacobs will be the general contractor. The Hingham Sports partnership will contribute $89,000 toward the construction of the field house and Mr. Hastings will contribute $150,000 to the project. Mr. MacIver noted that it was over a year ago that the process began. It is anticipated that the shovel will go in the ground in early summer and that all the Little League teams will be able to use the fields until Mr. Hastings gives 10-day notice that the fields will be under construction. It is hoped that the fields will be graded and seeded for the fall growing season. It is expected that the fields will be ready for use by the 2007 baseball season. The football teams will have to find alternate field space for the fall 2006.
Voted - that the Board elects to substitute field house option and approves the detailed construction plans and general contactor for the Beal Street playing fields.
Voted - to waive the building fees for the Beal Street playing fields and field house.
Voted - to sign a charitable pledge agreement with Hingham Sports Partnership.
Community Preservation Committee Open Space Acquisition Article
Mr. MacIver noted that this warrant article was precipitated by a threat to the open space behind houses along Glad Tidings Plain. The Community Preservation Committee negotiated with the owner of the property as well as the owners of other properties in the area. The Board noted that this is a prudent use of Community Preservation Committee funds since it buys not just a piece of property but is the linchpin to acquiring preservation restrictions on other properties in the area.
Voted - to support the Community preservation Committee warrant article (Article 26) which recommends the appropriation of $500,000 from the Community Preservation Open Space Reserve for the purchase of 104,901 square feet of Lot 10 on Assessors' Map 137 (Parcel A) behind 730 Main Street together with a permanent conservation easement on 17,619 square feet abutting Parcel A to the northwest side in conjunction with the donation to the Hingham Land Conservation Trust of permanent conservation restrictions of other open space in the general area of 730 Main Street.
Voted - to authorize the Chairman of the Community Preservation Committee to sign an Purchase and Sale Agreement for the purchase of 104,901 square feet of Lot 10 on Assessors' Map 137 (Parcel A) behind 730 Main Street in together with a permanent conservation easement on 17,619 square feet abutting Parcel A to the northwest side.
Selectmen/Town Administrator Reports
Mr. Edmundson noted that his daughter would be doing some work on conservation in the West Street area. Other Greenbush related work would require that South Street would have to be bypassed for a while. The roadway will never be entirely closed. It may be one way traffic for a time. Once Hull Street is open Kilby Street will be closed for rail crossing work.
Meeting adjourned 7:55 pm.
