Board of Selectmen - Minutes

January 9, 2007
Regular Session 7:30 pm
Mr. Edmundson, Ms. Tully, Mr. Riley

The Board convened in joint session with the Planning Board to conduct interviews for an individual to fill an open seat on the Planning Board until the next election.

The Board, in conjunction with the Planning Board, interviewed the following candidates:

 Gary Tondorf-Dick
 Jack Gamache
 Lee Vigil
 Joseph Fisher

At the conclusion of the interviews the Board turned to routine business:
Mr. Cristello said that Hastings LLC put up poles and re-hung the lights from Beal Street because the School Department was not pleased with the idea of temporary lights.  The Board voted to indicate that Mr. Hastings has paid his share as outlined in the Development Agreement.

Voted - to concur with Hastings LLC that the requirement of Item Number 23 in Exhibit B of the Development Agreement for temporary lights has been met by the payment of $4,800 to Glynn Electric.

Mr. Cristello reported that the Housing Authority has raised several questions in regard to the Authority's acceptance of the Scotland Street property.  There are a variety of things that need to be done in order to bring it on line for affordable housing.  The Authority has requested the Board's support for an application to the Community Preservation Committee for these improvements.  The Committee met and voted that this was the top priority for funding this year.  The Board agreed to support this application to CPC.

Voted - to authorize the expenditure of up to an additional $9,000 from the Inclusionary Zoning Fund by the Hingham Housing Authority for the mitigation of conditions discovered during the testing of the property on Scotland Street in order to bring the Housing Authority property up to rentable condition.

Voted - to grant Request for Counsel as submitted by the Superintendent of Public Works.

Voted - to grant the following temporary liquor licenses for events at the South Shore Country Club:

Michael Stokes for the Lions Club Show on 1/12/2007.
Michael Stokes for a Super Bowl Party on 2/4/07.

Voted - to grant a temporary liquor license for Hingham Nursery School for a fundraiser to be held February 10, 2007 at the Old Ship Parish House.

Voted - to renew the Auctioneer's License of Scott McCulloch, 12 Tick Tock Lane, Weymouth to conduct auctions at Broad Cove Ballroom, for the calendar year.

Voted - to renew the Dance Hall License of Broad Cove Ballroom, c/o Norman McCulloch, 20 Broad Cove Road, for the calendar year.

Voted - to approve the minutes of November 14, 20, 21, 29 and 30, 2006 and the minutes of December 5 and 14, 2006.

Correspondence and Reports
Mr. Edmundson said the State of the Town Forum was productive.  He requested feedback on January versus November.  The discussion of the school building projects was very informational.  A letter was received from attorneys representing Back River LLC regarding the sign bylaw.  Mr. Riley said although he wasn't sure he agreed with the
validity of the argument presented by the attorney, the Board will look into it.  The traffic light at High, Free and Main is in and blinking.  Mr. Cristello reported that the asbestos work at Bare Cove Park has begun; the DEP has been out to the site and recognizes how difficult soil removal would be.

Meeting adjourned 9:25 pm.
