Board of Selectmen - Minutes

February 6, 2007
Regular Session 7:36 pm
Mr. Edmundson, Ms. Tully, Mr. Riley

The meeting was called to order and Mr. Edmundson announced that the Board would meet in joint session with the Advisory Committee for the school budget presentation and the School Committee warrant article discussion.

Ms. Gregoire and Dr. Galo presented the proposed FY08 school budget.

Mr. McDonald reviewed progress to date on the school facilities master plan and the design of the new elementary school.

The Board took matters under advisement.  It is expected that the Board will vote on the School budget in early March.

The Advisory Committee left the meeting and the Board resumed regular session.

Recently the MBTA had requested the Board to advise whether a late train would be of interest to the community.  Mr. Cristello investigated and found that the train would leave Boston around 11:30 pm and pass through Hingham around midnight.  This would not mean a train would leave earlier than presently scheduled the next morning.  The Board noted that it could create a problem for people close to the tracks.

Voted - to advise the MBTA that the Town of Hingham does not support the suggested Greenbush Line late train.

Voted - to grant the request of Bertucci's Restaurant Corporation, d/b/a Bertucci's Brick Oven Ristorante, 90 Derby Street, Deborah A. Collins, Manager to increase their current seating of 130 to 147 seats inside and 40 outside seats modified to 23 outside seasonal seats.

Voted - to appoint Alexander Macmillan to the Historical Commission to fill an unexpired term ending in 2008.

Voted - to appoint John McCoy to the Historic Districts Commission to fill an unexpired term ending in 2008.

Voted -  to grant a temporary liquor license to Paul Hart for the following events to be held at the South Shore Country Club:

South Elementary School fundraiser on February 10, 2007.
Birthday party on February 11, 2007.

Voted - to grant Bare Cove Gourmet a temporary liquor license for a film preview at the Hingham Community Center on  March 4, 2007.

Voted - to grant the Silent Chef, Inc. a temporary liquor license for a Little League Fundraiser at the South Shore Country Club on  March  10, 2007.

Selectmen/Town Administrator's Reports
Mr. Edmundson remarked that the Lincoln Day celebration was well attended and that Scott Ford did an excellent job.   Mr. Edmundson also had a meeting with representatives of the various sports leagues regarding the management of the new Beal Street Field House.  It is a Town property but there is an opportunity to have the Little League and Youth Football take over the maintenance in return for usage.  Ms. Tully said that the Municipal Benchmarking group would meet on Thursday to continue the process.  Mr. Riley advised that he had attended the Greenbush Golden Spike ceremony today in Braintree and that the Town had been presented with a spike to display.  Mr. Cristello said that Mr. Eng of the MBTA had advised him that there would be test trains running as early as May.  Ms. Tully suggested that the Police and Fire chiefs attend one of the April meetings of the Board in order to talk about train safety.

The Board voted, by roll call vote, to adjourn to executive session for purpose of contract negotiations and not to return to open session this evening.

 Ms. Tully - yes
 Mr. Riley - yes
