Present: Chairman Laura M. Burns, Bruce Rabuffo, and Irma H. Lauter; Ted Alexiades, Town Administrator; and Betty Foley, Assistant Town Administrator
With a quorum present, Chairman Burns called the meeting to order. Chairman Burns and Mr. Rabuffo congratulated and welcomed newly elected Selectman Irma Lauter.
Approval of Memorandum of Agreement between the Town of Hingham and the Hingham Permanent Firefighters Association, Local 2398 I.A.F.F.: Nelson Ross and Marie Harris of the Personnel Board were present. Mr. Ross stated that negotiations with Hingham Permanent Firefighters Association, Local 2398 I.A.F.F. are complete. The term of the new agreement is July 1, 2011, through July 1, 2013, it includes wage increases and a shift differential increase, and it reinstates a full education incentive pay program relating to associates, bachelors and masters degrees in Fire Science, Fire Protection Engineering, and Emergency Medical Services. Mr. Nelson explained why the negotiation process was successful from his perspective, and he asked the Board to ratify the agreement. Chairman Burns stated she was particularly happy about the educational incentive.
Voted – A motion was made by Mr. Rabuffo and seconded by Ms. Lauter to approve the Memorandum of Agreement between the Town of Hingham and the Hingham Permanent Firefighters Association, Local 2398 I.A.F.F. for the period July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2014. A vote was taken and all were in favor; the motion passed.
Mr. Ross thanked all parties involved in the negotiation process. Mr. Alexiades noted that a new part of the process this year was his sitting in on the negotiations. He also thanked those involved, including Mr. Ross. William McIntyre, President of Local 2398, spoke in favor of the current process of having the Town Administrator present during negotiations.
Taste of Hingham: Voted – A motion was made by Ms. Lauter and seconded by Mr. Rabuffo to close the section of Main Street between South and Elm Streets on Saturday, May 19th from 8:00 am to 4:30pm for the “Taste of Hingham.” A vote was taken and all were in favor; the motion passed.
Adjourn: Voted – A motion was made by Mr. Rabuffo and seconded by Ms. Lauter to adjourn. A vote was taken and all were in favor; the motion passed.
The meeting adjourned at 1:19 pm.
