Hingham Sewer Commission
Meeting of Sewer Commissioners

Sewer Commission Meeting
Monday, June 15, 2009
8:00 a.m.

The meeting was called to order at 7:59 a.m. Those present included Commissioner Demko and Spath (Commissioner Salerno was busy becoming a father); Chuck Dam from CDM; Hugh Kilmartin; Kate Lathrop; Jim Dow.

• Review design for Central and Thaxter Streets

There was a great deal of discussion regarding the plans for the Thaxter Street project. Commissioner Spath had shot the grades to the edge of the pavement on Saturday. There was conversation about some of the measurements indicated on the CDM plan. Chuck Dam explained how the bids would provide line items for each part of the project. A fixed amount will be included for ledge removal and the bidders will indicate how much they will charge for additional ledge removal over and above that amount. The contractor will be paid for the actual amount of ledge removed only. The importance of adhering to the dates set out was stressed with liquidated damages to be added for any time over that.

In addition, the DPW requirements for paving were discussed (see letter from Harry Sylvester). It was moved, seconded, and voted unanimously to accept CDM’s draft plans for Central & Thaxter.

• Vote on award of contract for Weir River grinder pumps

One bid was received for the new electrical controls for the Weir River grinder pumps. It was moved, seconded, and voted unanimously to accept the bid from Action Automation and Controls for 62 grinder pump units at $42,290.

• Bioxide program for North Street

Jim Dow proposed requesting a second trial period from Siemans to try out the Bioxide program for odor control during the warm weather months. The Board agreed that was a good idea. Jim will contact Siemans and get things started

The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 a.m.

This summary does not include every item discussed by the Board, nor the full extent of the discussions. The full meeting is available on tope in the Commission Office.
