A Town Clerk must be dedicated to the community, informative, patient, cheerful and compassionate, possess the ability to listen and advise, be receptive to new ideas, and able to maintain a sense of humor while performing duties in a professional manner.
A Town Clerk is generally considered the center of local government; this office conveys a lasting impression of the community to all who enter.

Additional Services
BUSINESS CERTIFICATES – The Town of Hingham requires those who are doing business in the town, whether at home or another location, to file a certificate with the Town Clerk’s office indicating the business name, address, principal’s name(s) and address(es).
Application forms are available in our office or online. Should you file the application by mail, you must have your signature(s) notarized. The filing fee is $50.00 and the permit is valid for 4 years. The fee for withdrawal from, or termination of, a business is $20.00.
GENEALOGY RESEARCH – The Town of Hingham is very fortunate to have all its original records from 1635 to the present. These records are available to the public at the Hingham Public Library or the Town Clerk’s office.
Should you be interested in researching genealogy yourself, you may come to the Clerk’s office, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, Tuesday, 8:30am to 7:00pm, and Friday, 8:30am to 1:00pm, and browse through our films, books, etc.
If you’d rather have our office complete a search for you, there is a $25.00 fee per name and a $10.00 charge per certified birth/death/marriage certificate. Please supply our office with as much information as you can so that we can be sure of the correct direct line. Family researching is catching on, and leaving your history to your children and grandchildren and beyond is an exciting adventure. Information is available on the Internet at www.vitalrec.com or www.ancestry.com.
TOWN OF HINGHAM CENSUS – The Town of Hingham mails an Annual Street Listing (Census Questionnaire) every January. It is important that you promptly review your form, make changes as needed, sign and return it to our office even if all the information is correct. Each form is bar-coded so that it can be scanned into the statewide network.
It is essential that we know who is currently living in each household in order to have the correct count for voting purposes. Every 10 years the Federal census is taken to redistrict the Town based on voter population.
The Annual Street List Of Residents is published in late spring, and is available in the Clerk’s office for a fee of $15.00.
PARKING TICKET COLLECTION FOR THE TOWN Parking tickets may be returned by mail, personally, or by an authorized person to the Clerk’s office during regular business hours. A hearing may be obtained upon written request within 21 days or may be disputed by mail by the registered owner if submitted with supporting documentation. Failure to obey the notice within 21 days after date of violation may result in the non-renewal of the license or registration certificate. Written request for hearing must be sent to Parking Clerk, Town Hall, 210 Central Street, Hingham, MA 02043 (GL C90 S20A1/2, 20E as amended.)
You may also pay with a credit or debit card through Municipal Management who services the town at www.paymyparkingtickets.com
